I feel like this time of year is always a bit of a struggle. After the holidays and all the visiting and eating and events, it feels like all that’s left is an empty quiet.

I feel like there’s usually a slow down in news (I mostly follow tech news and this is a down time outside of CES, usually) but this year nothing I follow has been untouched by the current political climate.

There’s so much negativity and hostility going around. Honestly it’s been ramping up since the election cycle got in full swing last year.

I like to spend this time of year hunkered down reading and staying warm. But it’s hard to escape all the noise this year.

I’ve largely moved to following independent journalists over the last year and have really been trying to reduce my dependence on big tech firms.

The reporting from these sources is largely the reason I’ve started my own blog on my own site. Taking as much ownership as I can of what content I create.

I’ve never been active in social media and this is really my first attempt at publishing anything I’ve created. Using this space as a sort of journaling I hope I can stick with.
